Engineer, Composites Innovation Centre
Alastair has a scientific background having completed his bachelor and master degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba. He is currently pursuing a master in space studies degree from the University of North Dakota. For the past eleven years, Alastair has worked at the Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) in Winnipeg, the last seven years as the Principal Engineer for the Ground Transportation and Design sector. Besides the technical aspects of the job, he acts as the project manager for many activities. Responsibilities as a project manager include client negotiations, contract preparation, budgeting, scheduling, and resource tracking. As the Principal Engineer, He is responsible for developing design and analysis standards for the company and reviewing and supervising the technical work of a group of six other technical staff. Additionally, Alastair served two years as a member on the Board of Directors for the Manitoba Theatre for Young People. He is a member of the Governance and HR subcommittee with active roles in board recruitment, HR policy review, and performing a review of the constitution. He has also recently become a member of the Development subcommittee focusing on raising new funds for the organization. Alastair is a member of the MSSS planning committee and was also on the Executive for the national Science Fair Committee.
