YSC cancels Canada-Wide Science Fair 2020

As a result of the preventative measures enacted by various provincial governments across Canada due to the spread of COVID-19, Youth Science Canada is unable to hold the 2020 Canada-Wide Science Fair as planned, from May 9-15 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Youth Science Canada has closely monitored the advice from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and respects the measures implemented at the regional level to prevent the spread of the virus.

Together with health and school officials, Youth Science Canada is committed to the health and safety of the young innovators, volunteers and staff who contribute to its network and the promotion of curiosity and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects among Canadian students.

Although we are disappointed for the thousands of students who have worked hard on STEM projects to present at our network of over 100 regional science fairs and the Canada-Wide Science Fair, we understand the importance of working together to overcome this crisis. We are proud to play a vital role in the future of Canadian STEM by encouraging youth to investigate scientific questions and develop innovative solutions for real-world problems, like COVID-19.

During the coming weeks, Youth Science Canada will explore alternative ways to continue to engage and celebrate Canadian students who have dedicated time to a STEM project.

Updates to this announcement will be made as information becomes available.
