Topic 3: Teacher Responsibilities

  • The teacher’s primary role is to facilitate the student’s completion of the project.
  • Many students may be unfamiliar with the background knowledge or the research methods to acquire it. Teaching students how to access resources is a critical role. TEACHERS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS!
  • Teachers may have to provide other general scientific techniques to students, such as data management, graphing and basic statistics, appropriate to the level of the students.
  • Teachers may provide materials, equipment, training in skills, and space to do the project.
  • Teachers may function as advisers to students regarding experimental design and interpretation of results.
  • Finally, the teacher may be one of the judges that assess the project.
