Topic 1: Who Should do the Judging?

here are a variety of people, chosen from the school, school system, and community who can be recruited as judges. Judges from out of the classroom make the occasion of the science fair more interesting for the students.

  • Teachers may serve as judges. Other school personnel such as administrators, counselors, and support staff may also be judges.
  • Parents associated with the school often have scientific or technical backgrounds that enable them to easily serve as judges.
  • Older students who are senior science students from high school or university can judge at local fairs. Of particular interest are school alumni.
  • Central office staff such as consultants and assistant superintendents are often willing judges.
  • Community partners may also have people who have technical or scientific backgrounds that would help them contribute as judges.
  • University professors, sessional instructors, lab instructors, grad students, and undergraduate students are often recruited to judge at the regional level so they could be approached for a school level science fair if the science fair is sufficiently large.
