Organization and Logistics

There are several important aspects to organizing a local in-school science fair. The thought of running a science fair can be intimidating, especially to teachers who have not run such an event before. This section of the manual will generally describe the amount of committment (on the part of the students, the teachers, and the school) required to run such an event. Because the curriculum doesn’t specifically mention “science fair” as an objective, it is thought that this type of event is not supported in curriculum. What should be made clear, however, is that science fair should be regarded as a teaching strategy and as a learning strategy – as a method to achieve objectives rather than as an objective in and of itself.

Part 1 of the Manual is divided into 4 sections:

  1. What is a science fair and why have one?
  2. Student responsibilties
  3. Teacher responsibilities
  4. Space and time commitments
