Work with Us
Join Our Team
Youth Science Canada is a small national team with a big mission. We work across time zones, connect thousands of students to STEM opportunities every year, and gather once a year at the Canada-Wide Science Fair to see that work come to life.
We’re not always hiring, but when we are, you’ll find the opportunity here first. We also share openings through our newsletter and social channels. Follow us or subscribe to stay in the loop.
Now Hiring: Communications Specialist
Applications close April 28, 2026
We’re looking for a Communications Specialist to join our team for two months starting May 11, 2026. This is a paid, full-time remote position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, open to Canadians between 15 and 30 years old.
You’ll work directly with our Manager, Communications and Development, helping tell the stories of young scientists from across Canada during one of the most exciting stretches of our calendar year. That includes being on-site at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton from May 23–30, Canada’s largest youth STEM competition.
What you’ll be doing
Most of your time will be spent on content and storytelling: writing profiles of student scientists, drafting social media posts and newsletter content, and learning to adapt stories for different audiences. You’ll also support communications with our national community; responding to inquiries, engaging with our network of regional STEM fair volunteers, and helping coordinate live event communications during CWSF. Throughout the placement you’ll develop hands-on experience with the professional tools we use every day, including our CMS, CRM, and design software.
What we’re looking for
You don’t need a communications degree or years of professional experience. We’re looking for someone who writes/films clearly and engagingly, works well independently in a remote environment, and genuinely cares about youth and STEM education. If you’ve ever competed at a science fair, volunteered at one, or followed YSC’s work, we’d especially love to hear from you.
Candidates based in Edmonton are particularly encouraged to apply, as the role includes on-site participation at CWSF.
