A Remarkable Experience for Team Canada-LIYSF

Earlier this year, a group of young scientists from across Canada participated in the prestigious London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF). This remarkable event, a two-week program held annually, gathers over 500 students aged 16-21 from more than 70 countries. LIYSF aims to encourage a deeper understanding of science across different disciplines and promote its significance in addressing global challenges. It also focuses on developing communication and critical thinking skills, as well as fostering a spirit of international cooperation among the future leaders of STEM.

Accompanying the in-person delegation were digital participants Navid, Tobi, and Gabriel, who contributed through an online platform, showcasing the power of digital learning and collaboration.

The forum provided an immersive learning experience, where students attended lectures by eminent scientists, participated in specialized workshops, and engaged in hands-on research. It also included visits to world-class laboratories and universities in the UK, offering a unique glimpse into the forefront of scientific research. “LIYSF was an incredible experience! Going to London and meeting some of the brightest young minds in the world was a dream come true. I got to learn about many creative innovations that are being used to solve some of the worlds biggest problems. My favourite presentation was about Dr. Perla Maiolino’s research into creating robots that’s can feel and touch. LIYSF showed me that anything is possible and that every problem has a solution. It inspired me to think big and pursue my dream of becoming an engineer to solve problems and make the world a better place.” reflects Prabhnoor, a CWSF alum and Team Canada-LIYSF member.

Youth Science Canada is the designated LIYSF national organizer, responsible for collecting expressions of interest and nominating selected participants to the LIYSF organizing team. LIYSF will return from July 24 to August 7, 2024.
