Join the Movement Empowering Young Canadian Innovators

Whether you have time, expertise, or resources to share, there’s a meaningful way for you to support the next generation of problem-solvers and discoverers.

Be Part of Something Bigger

Youth Science Canada’s impact reaches over 10,000 students annually, but none of it happens without the dedicated individuals, organizations, and communities who believe in the power of youth curiosity.

From volunteering a few hours to judge projects, to providing financial support that removes barriers, to partnering on programs that expand our reach, every contribution strengthens the ecosystem that transforms young Canadians’ questions into confidence and capability.

Support Your Local STEM Fair

Regional STEM fairs are the heart of our national network, and they thrive because of community volunteers. Every fair needs judges, organizers, mentors, and support volunteers to create meaningful experiences for students.

Volunteer roles at regional fairs include:

  • Judging projects – Provide feedback and encouragement to student investigators
  • Event coordination – Help with registration, logistics, setup, and fair day operations
  • Mentorship – Guide students through project development in your community
  • Committee participation – Join organizing committees that plan and run annual fairs

Regional fairs welcome volunteers with all backgrounds and expertise levels. You don’t need to be a scientist to make a difference, enthusiasm for youth development and willingness to listen matter most.

Become a CWSF Judge or Volunteer

Each May, the Canada-Wide Science Fair brings together 400 of Canada’s top young scientists, and we need approximately 400 judges to provide meaningful evaluation and feedback and 100 other volunteers to support the execution of the fair. Volunteering at the CWSF is an inspiring experience where you’ll engage with exceptional projects and witness the future of Canadian innovation firsthand.

What’s involved:

  • Judging takes place over 1-2 days during CWSF week, and judges typically evaluate 6-8 projects each
  • General volunteering opportunities exist for a few days before and throughout the whole fair
  • Training and support provided before and during the fair
  • Opportunity varies by CWSF host city each year

Interested in volunteering? We collect expressions of interest year-round. When CWSF is in a city near you, we’ll reach out with details about participation.

Support Through Giving

Your financial support directly removes barriers and creates opportunities for Canadian youth to engage with STEM projects.

Your donation provides:

  • Free online resources accessible to every Canadian student
  • Scholarships and awards recognizing student achievement
  • Technology and platforms that connect isolated students with national communities
  • Program development that expands our reach and impact

Every contribution – whether monthly, one-time, or in honour of someone – makes a tangible difference in a young person’s journey from curiosity to confidence.

Share Your Story

Alumni & Former Participants

If STEM fairs were part of your journey, sharing your story helps inspire the next generation while demonstrating the long-term impact of youth STEM engagement.

We regularly feature alumni stories showing diverse career paths, from scientists to lawyers, entrepreneurs to educators, and how skills developed through STEM projects serve them throughout life.

Educators & Organizers

Your experiences implementing inquiry-based learning, running school fairs, or organizing regional events provide valuable insights for others beginning similar journeys.

Contributing your knowledge helps build our resource library and supports the broader community of educators championing youth STEM projects.

Spread the Word

Sometimes the most valuable contribution is simply letting others know about opportunities that exist.

You can help by:

  • Sharing information about regional STEM fairs with schools and families in your community
  • Connecting curious students with mySTEMspace resources
  • Introducing potential sponsors or partners to our work
  • Following and sharing our stories on social media
  • Talking about the value of STEM fairs and project-based learning

Every conversation that sparks curiosity or connects someone with resources creates ripple effects we can’t always measure, but absolutely matter.

Find Your Way to Contribute

There’s no single “right” way to support Youth Science Canada and our mission to empower the innovators of tomorrow. The most meaningful contributions come from aligning what you have to offer with where it can make the greatest difference.

  • Have a few hours? Volunteer to judge at your regional fair
  • Have expertise? Mentor students or express interest in CWSF judging
  • Have resources? Make a donation or explore membership
  • Have influence? Connect us with potential partners or sponsors
  • Have a story? Share how STEM fairs impacted your journey

Whatever you bring, there’s a place for you in this community working to ensure every Canadian young person can explore their curiosity and realize their potential.
