Canada Wins Special Award at EUCYS 2019

Manning Whitby of Toronto received one of eight EIROforum Special Awards during this morning’s awards ceremony at EUCYS 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The award, from EUROfusion, a consortium of national fusion research institutes, includes a one-week trip to the agency’s facility in Culham, UK.

Whitby, together with Bhavya Mohan of Ottawa, represented Canada at the international competition, which rewards and celebrates promising young scientists from Europe and beyond, who present their projects to a panel of international judges.

This year, first place awards were presented to students from Denmark, Germany, Ireland and the USA.

Team Canada-EUCYS is generously sponsored by Youth Can Innovate, a program of the Gwyn Morgan and Patricia Trottier Foundation and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) through its Young Innovators program.
