  June 28, 2017 - The 2017 Canada-Wide Science Fair grand award winners were pleasantly surprised with a phone call from the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Canada’s Minister of Science, Wednesday, June 28, a month after the fair. Minister Duncan, a proud supporter of Youth Science Canada and the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), is a fierce advocate for opportunities in STEM education and engagement for Canadian youth.   Nicole Schmidt from Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta has been selected as winner of the Canadian Stockholm Junior Water Prize. She will represent Canada in the 2017 Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition during World Water Week from August 27 to September 1 in Stockholm, Sweden. In her project, Optimizing Fluid Flow Systems, Schmidt developed a method to create and stabilize bulk bubble foam, which was used to successfully separate ultrafine heavy metal particles dispersed in industrial processing water and groundwater. Prix Horizon STIAM, Ottawa (Ontario) - Le mercredi 17 mai, la Fondation de la Société des musées de sciences et technologies du Canada présentera les prix Horizon STIAM à sept élèves canadiens, dont trois sont des anciennes et anciens de l’Expo-sciences pancanadienne. STEAM Horizon Awards, Ottawa, ON – Wednesday, May 17 the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation Foundation will be presenting seven STEAM Horizon Awards to Canadian students, three of whom are recent Canada-Wide Science Fair participants. 500 of Canada’s brightest young scientists are making their way to Regina for the 56th edition of the Canada-Wide Science Fair, May 14-20, 2017. The event is set to feature these student finalists and their 400 projects, selected from 25,000 regional science fair participants from across the country. 6,000 visitors are also making their way to the Regina area, making this Canada’s largest youth science competition. The Awards annually recognize up to ten volunteers and staff who have made an outstanding contribution, through innovation, long service, or leadership, to the organization or its programs at any level.
