Leo Jweda

Leo Jweda brings over a decade of leadership and hands-on experience in STEM, education, and entrepreneurship. As a software engineer, educator, and founder of Jweda Labs, a Toronto-based software development company, Leo offers a distinctive blend of technical expertise, business strategy, and community engagement. Leo holds a Master of Science from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Science from Trent University. He has judged at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), serves on the Toronto Science Fair Committee, and volunteers as a Patient Partner at UHN. These roles demonstrate his dedication to youth engagement, community service, and public health. He is also an active member of IEEE, ACM, and CIPS. He has led high-impact engineering initiatives at major technology companies, including Shopify, where he took full ownership of internal tools and collaborated on cross-functional development efforts. Through Jweda Labs, he partners with startups and small businesses to deliver robust web platforms and advise on digital strategy. This experience aligns closely with the Board’s focus on business development and STEM innovation. A passionate advocate for science education, Leo currently serves as a Workshop Leader at Trent University, where he teaches across a range of subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Online Marketing, and Computer Crime and Forensics. His approach emphasizes clarity, curiosity, and real-world application. As a Canadian of Arab descent, Leo is deeply committed to inclusion and ensuring that youth from underrepresented communities can access and thrive in STEM fields. He brings an equity-focused lens to leadership and is dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in decision-making spaces. Leo’s extensive background in software engineering, education, and inclusive leadership, combined with his direct involvement in science fairs and STEM outreach, makes him a strong candidate for advancing Youth Science Canada’s mission and helping shape a more innovative, diverse future for Canadian youth in science.
