Today was a fun and busy day for the finalists, beginning in the morning with rotations between public viewing in the exhibit hall and the STEAM event across the University of Regina campus. In the afternoon, finalists split into groups for the U R a Scientist sessions, allowing students to learn more about the cool science being conducted right here in Regina. Sessions including meeting some snakes, a lesson on ornithology, an exploration of computational chemistry and an interactive lesson on vaccine development. It was a cool way to get to explore some cutting edge research and become familiar with all of the exciting things happening at the University of Regina.
The evening then involved a second public viewing session before concluding with a viewing of the film ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Finalists and delegates were encouraged to arrive in the pajamas, indulge in some delicious treats and kick back while watching the newest Harry Potter film. It was a great way to relax before the awards ceremony, banquet and dance happening tomorrow at the Conexus Arts Centre.
Today’s fun fact about Saskatchewan is that the province produces over 90% of Canada’s mustard and nearly half of the total global supply of mustard seed. So next time you put mustard on your hot dog, remember that it probably was made with Saskatchewan mustard!
